The very meaning of “mindfulness” is conscious presence. It has come from Eastern philosophies into the terminology of Westerners who follow a conscious lifestyle. Techniques of mindful presence allow us to perceive reality on all levels instead of the images our mind produces. The conscious encounter with reality is healing for the mind and body and is therefore also used for therapeutic purposes. The very meaning of “mindfulness” is conscious presence. “Mindfoodness”, of course, refers to the fact that conscious presence is also recommended in food. Consciousness in this case is twofold: I am aware of what I am eating, not just casually eating my lunch while answering the phone or watching TV. This helps me to feel the impact of the food I eat, so that I am in tune with myself and my self-awareness improves. The other direction of awareness is the opposite: I know myself, so I order food for lunch that is actually good for me in my current state.
